Debt Free Living - Not Impossible
Debt free living is possible if you believe you can do it. The first
person you have to convince is you. Controlling impulse purchases is one of
the first keys in a change of your financial life. You still can spend money
occasionally, but do so in moderation. Try to take care of needs first, and
then you won't feel guilty when you do buy on impulse. A debt free life can
be accomplished but some serious planning and forethought is necessary to
make it work. Developing a working budget is one of the best ways to examine
your spending patterns and learn how to save for the future. Controlling
variable expenses doesn't mean going without, it just means giving the
freedom to say no to some purchases.
Credit card debt can be eliminated over time. It might take several years to
significantly reduce your debt load but by doing so, you will be well on the
road to freedom. Emergencies come up that need immediate attention, so keep
one or two credit cards nearby. Securing a home equity line of credit might
be another way to have credit for emergencies. The interest is a tax
deduction off your federal income taxes.

Another way to insure a debt free lifestyle is to cancel most of your credit
cards after you pay them off. The best time to cut a credit card is when a
zero balance is on the card. Otherwise, the credit bureaus might pick the
sign up as a negative on your credit report.
How Do You Cancel A Credit Card?
Simply notify the card issuer by telephone as well as by mailing to make
sure your intentions are known. Then, check your credit report to make sure
no negative information exists about the transaction that might affect your
privacy.
